How to replace an Inactive Owner?

A common issue within circles is that owners and staff may become inactive or abandon their responsibilities over time. To ensure continuity and growth, there are processes in place for replacing an inactive owner. Below is everything you need to know about how this works.

How to report an inactive owner?

If you believe an owner and the circle staff are inactive you may submit a ticket to the Kyodo Support with the circle link for review.

If the circle owner is logging onto the circle, then your inactive owner ticket will be denied.

If the owner is confirmed to be inactive, the most active staff member, regardless of whether they hold an admin or moderator role, will be promoted to owner.

In situations where there are no active staff members, here are the possible outcomes.

  1. The most active circle member will automatically get the role.
  2. If the circle contains unmoderated content that violate our guidelines, a volunteer will be assigned to owner duty with the intent to clean up and find new circle staff.

The reporter is not guaranteed to receive the owner role, this is a common misconception. Please also note that if you are already owner in 3 or more circles, you will not be eligible to receive ownership, regardless of activity.

When is a circle not eligible for a new owner?

If a circle has less than a 100 members and or less than 10 daily activity users, it will not qualify to receive a new owner. In this instance, we suggest that you create a new circle with the same or similar topic to actively manage.

How much time should an owner spend in their circle?

A circle owner should at least spend a minimum of 10 minutes daily in their circle, other staff should spend at least 5 minutes in their circle daily.

Please note that if the owner and staff are active but do not take any moderation action in their circle to uphold Kyodo Community Guidelines, they will still be subjected to lose their position.
